Welcome

ARTSM is an informed and influential force in the field of Highways and Transport. The Association seeks to benefit Members through its representative role, aiming to influence technological developments and improve standards in traffic engineering and operations.

Members are kept up to date with developments affecting the industry by the CEO. Through our working groups we consult with Members on European and UK standards and make representations on their behalf to central and local government and standards bodies.

The Association attends major trade exhibitions and conferences and also make regular contributions to the technical press dealing with issues that affect our members.

We work closely with the Department for Transport and the Devolved Government Road/Traffic Departments and are represented on several technical committees, including the DfT Traffic Signs Technical Working Party. 

By having seats on a number of standards and specifications committees we are well placed to participate in the development of standards which relate to our industry sectors.  ARTSM provides technical expertise to a number of technical and policy committees at CEN, through BSI, and the TOPAS Board alongside government and the LRN & SRN user communities.   (External Committee Scope 2023)

We work collaboratively, maintaining strong links with other trade bodies, public authorities, academia and NGO representatives to ensure consensus with Europe and EU standardisation processes and we provide guidance for industry on relevant issues in our scope of operations. We are founding partners of the Roads & Highways Industry Forum (RHIF) and also partner LCRIG (Local Council Road Innovation Group),  Safer Highways, Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP), and Driving for Better Business (DfBB).  We also hold the Chair for NHSS9.

We offer an alternative dispute resolution process to maintain adherence to standards, which is free for our members, the details of which are found in our Dispute Resolution Policy. In addition we supply updates on legal requirements to members through our working groups and via email.

The Executive Committee is responsible for directing the general running of the Association’s affairs, which is managed  by the CEO.  (Meet the Executive Team).

We hold an annual OGM for members, following our AGM, which provides good networking opportunities and a chance to learn about latest innovation from our members and partners.

Date for 2025 AGM

We are pleased to confirm that our AGM for 2025 will be held on 20th March at Eastwood Hall, Nottingham.  Full details will be sent out in due course.

Home Office – call for views

24/7/24 – The Home Office has drafted a new Road Traffic Law Enforcement  HOTA submission process guidance which is intended to replace the current HOTA Guidance.  This is now out for public consultation.  An email has been sent to our members asking for feedback.
